Jim Deardorff of Classic Blast is well known around Chillicothe for being able to remove paint from even the thinnest, most delicate metals without warping or damaging. Jim uses a system he developed himself which combines various types of abrasive media into one Sanstorm blast tank, and blasting at low pressure. He’s made a name for himself by successfully cleaning classic cars, tractors, aircraft and other antique odds and ends that other blasters would inadvertently destroy.

Chillicothe high school lockers restored with the Sanstorm abrasive blaster.

As is the case with these Chillicothe High School lockers. A customer brought these to him saying that the lockers which the school was throwing away were all she had left of her high school years, which were some of the best of her life. Made of a very thin gauge metal, Jim had to blast at a very low 26 PSI!

Jim’s expertise and cleverly devised method is impressive, and affords him many jobs others just can’t be trusted with., and his tool of choice is the Sanstorm. With the Sanstorm you can blast with many types of abrasive and you have full control over media flow and pressure. We’ve been manufacturing blasters for over 70 years, and we’re still the only manufacturer to offer a lifetime warranty on blast tanks.

Classic Blast for Classic Parts

Over the last 18 years Jim Deardorff of Classic Blast has completed over 2500 restoration jobs with his Sanstorm blaster!

“In my opinion, the industry can learn alot from the restoration community. Many
parts that are scrapped and replaced due to high costs could be saved and
reconditioned which would reduce waste and save the customers money.”

As is the case with these 1968 Chevrolet Camaro seat frames brought to him by a customer who wanted to keep as many original parts in the restoration as possible. It took Jim 2 hours for these seat frames and springs, and they turned out perfect.

Jim from Classic Blast used his trusty Sanstorm to blast these 1968 Camaro seat frames.

Jim has had such success because he’s developed and perfected a blasting technique he calls Classic Blast. He uses a variety of abrasives in a special ratio at a particular pressure to achieve amazing results without damaging even delicate metal. This particular job he blasted at 35 PSI, and was able to remove paint and rust without warping or gouging the metal.  Jim is truly an artist at what he does, and the tool he chooses for his art, is the Sanstorm. Sanstorm blast pots can be used with many types of media like sand, walnut shell, aluminum oxide, recycled glass, garnet, and many more. It also gives you full control over the pressure you blast at, and the patented feed system prevents clogging, for uninterrupted productivity.

To learn more about why Sanstorm are the best sand blasters on the market, go to Sanstorm-Blasters.com

We are the only blast manufacturer to offer a lifetime warranty on pressure vessels! Proudly made in the USA.

20 PSI – Now that’s Low Pressure Blasting!

Jim Deardorff, owner of Classic Blast, sent us some interesting pictures this week. Jim has been a master blaster for years, and has developed a very unique technique for abrasive blasting which he calls the Classic Blast Abrasive Cleaning System. Using his Sanstorm machine along with a special fine, dense mixture of aluminum oxide and graded walnut shells, he is able to remove paint or rust even from thin-gage metal surfaces without warping, pitting or excess roughness that regular sand blasting would cause. Over the years, this unique system has allowed him to blast some very interesting things, from old antiques, to jet airplanes. This week he got to do some folding wrought iron furniture with ornate ceramic inlays.

Many blasting machines put out too much pressure for this type of work. Jim uses a Sanstorm machine, so he is able to fine tune the abrasive flow and the pressure, which gives him the flexibility to strip almost anything, including this antique roof vent…

This antique roof vent was brought to Jim by a customer who had been trying to collect a set of three. It doesn’t look very valuable, but his customer said that he had found two more online for $1800. Obviously they couldn’t risk destroying the thin metal with traditional sand blasting. But Jim Deardorff, his Classic Blast technique, and Sanstorm saved the day and restored this antique to like-new condition. He blasted it at only 20 PSI.

If you need a job done near Chillicothe, look up Classic Blast and give Jim a call. If you need top notch clogless multi abrasive blast machines, check out Sanstorm-Blasters.com or give us a call at 800-727-5707.

American Made, Texas Tough

In this day and age, you don’t find too many products that are made in the USA. Many companies send their fabrication work to China, to decrease costs. But with that decrease in cost, comes a decrease in quality and reliability, which is why for over 60 years our blasters have been built here in America, by Americans.

3 generations of tanks owned by Jim Deardorff

Jim Deardorff knows the value of American manufacturing. He’s been using Sanstorm blasters for over 30 years, and is still a very satisfied customer. Jim reports that one of his blasters rolled out of the back of his truck at 45 miles per hour, got hit by a farm tractor, and still works fine. “It works every day, all day long.” Jim says, “I have enjoyed maintenance free performance for years with my Sanstorm machines.” The Sanstorm only has three wear parts, so maintenance is not a big issue.

At MMLJ, we’re not in the business of selling disposable tools. We’re in the business of selling superior tools that will last a lifetime. All of our blasters are built right here in our facility in Texas with the highest regard to quality. We are still the only blast manufacturer with a lifetime warranty on tank assemblies. Visit Our Website for more info, and check out Jim’s Website as well.

Lawn Furniture After

Got some great old lawn furniture in need of a makeover? Read on about how almost an entire suburb got a lawn furniture makeover thanks to Master Blaster and owner of Classic Blast, Jim Deardorff! No need to toss that old furniture when you have a Sanstorm handy!

Lawn Furniture Before

Deardorff goes on to tell us, “Back when I worked for the KC company, one of their major profit jobs was repainting large homes in Overland Park, Kansas for wealthy owners. Well, every one of these homes had one or two sets of the old style Wrought Iron lawn furniture. Soon, the Job Estimator, realized there was a gold mine in blasting and repainting this antique metal furniture, but the blasting equipment at the shop put out too much pressure for this type of work. Sanstorm & Jim to the rescue!”

Deardorff continues, “About once a month, the house painting crew would bring in a trailer load of Wrought Iron furniture from a current project. Then they would call me in. My girlfriend, (whom I later married) would go down with me on a weekend and set up for blasting. I remember one weekend we had 140 individual pieces (chairs, tables, plant stands, etc). She would fill the pot, and I would blast away for hours!” Deardorff has remained a loyal user of only Sanstorm blasters, check out more of his work at www.classicblast.com.

Jet Before Sanstorm-Classic Blast

Master Blaster and owner of Classic Blast, Jim Deardorff, is probably one of the few American originals who can say they have blasted all of the above and more! He has truly blasted just about EVERYTHING in his years as a Master Blaster and Restoration specialist. ALL with his Sanstorm! No job too big or too small for Deardorff.

Jet After Sanstorm-Classic Blast

The manager of a MO airport called Deardorff about a unique painting opportunity.
He had received approval by city to repaint the F-105 Thunder Chief fighter jet on display at the entrance of the Chillicothe airport. The last paint job had been over twenty five years ago when it was painted with the Thunderbird paint scheme. Bill Keefer, the manager, wanted it returned to the original Vietnam War camouflage pattern.

Keefer specifically sought out Deardorff because of his experience in removing old paint and rust from classic car parts. Deardorff has developed a special sandblast process he called Classic Blast. Keefer had used him in the past to clean parts off his Ford Model A and Harley Davidson motorcycle. Keefer was confident Deardorff could remove the aged coating from the plane‘s aluminum skin without damage.

Notes from a Sanstorm Blaster of 30 Years…
Jim Deardorff, Master Blaster out of Kansas City, has some amazing testimonials regarding his Sanstorm pots:

“I had a $20 bet that I could fill my closed top pot faster than the other blaster with a open top pot. I fill 5 gallon buckets with abrasives then dump them in the pot when empty. There other blaster lifts a bag of abrasive over the pot splits the bag with a knife and empties the bag. With the Empire open top pot it took over 8 minutes. With my closed top pot and 5 gallon buckets, 15 seconds. I won the bet.”

”I have been on jobs blasting fabricated steel where I used my 350 pot and 600 pot in combination. My ‘Sand Hog’ (the helper that fills my pots while I blast) would always keep one pot filled and ready. When I ran out of media, he would simply change the material hose from one pot to the other to keep me blasting while he filled up the empty pot for the next cycle. During a four hour shift we were able to complete 25 percent more work than the other blasters.”
